- Here we introduce how Tsukishima Kikai’s technologies are applied in sewage treatment systems.
Tsukishima Kikai’s Sewage Treatment Systems
«Sewage Treatment Plant»

Terminology
* First sedimentation
Large-sized dirt in the water flowing into the sewage treatment plant is settled to the bottom of a quiet pond and collected by machine.
* Biological reaction
Water is purified by microorganism which eat the small-sized dirt particles contained in the water.
* Final sedimentation
Microorganism that have eaten dirt are settled to the bottom of a quiet pond and collected by machine.
* Sterilization
Before waste water is discharged to a river or the sea, microorganism in the water are removed to make the water safe.
* Digestion
Microorganism that thrive in an environment without oxygen (anaerobic microorganism) eat and reduce the volume of the dirt and microorganism which were collected through “First sedimentation” and “Final sedimentation”. At the same time, the microorganism produce gas (digestion gas) useful for humans.
* Reuse of gas
The gas produced by the anaerobic microorganism is collected to generate electricity.
* Dewatering
Dirt (sludge) which could not fully be eaten through "Digestion" and other impurities are collected and water content is removed.
* Drying
The water content which could not fully be removed by “Dewatering” is completely removed by drying.
* Incineration & Melting
Dried sludge is burned into ashes to reduce its volume.
* Recycling as resources
Dried sludge is reused, instead of being burnt, as it is converted into an energy-creating material.
